The road to a state championship runs through Yukon

Yukon High School will host the opening rounds of the 2026 OSSAA Class 2A Fall Baseball State Tournament on October 8–9.

When eight of Oklahoma’s best Class 2A fall programs arrive on October 8, there will be very little margin for error. Seven games separate an eight-team field from one champion. Six of those teams will see their seasons end before they leave Yukon.

For the third consecutive year, Yukon High School is the stage for the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds — four quarterfinals on Thursday, October 8, and two state semifinals on Friday, October 9. The two teams still standing advance to the state championship on Saturday, October 10.

For Yukon Baseball, it continues a growing relationship with one of Oklahoma high school baseball’s most tradition-rich events.

A new classification with old baseball tradition

Class 2A fall baseball has a short official history. Beginning with the 2024 fall season, the OSSAA expanded fall baseball from two classifications to three — Class 2A, Class A, and Class B — and created a separate Class 2A state championship for the first time.

The entire history of the Class 2A Fall Baseball State Championship is two tournaments. Both of them began their championship weekend in Yukon.

The classification may be new. The programs are not. Silo’s 2024 title was the seventh fall baseball state championship in school history. A year later, Byng captured its seventh. Those earlier championships came under Oklahoma’s previous fall classification system.

That history is part of what makes the Class 2A tournament different. The bracket routinely brings together programs where playing deep into October is an expectation, not a surprise.

2024: Silo becomes the first Class 2A champion

The first official Class 2A fall tournament came through Yukon in October 2024. The eight-team field: Silo, Latta, Oktaha, Byng, Tushka, Calera, Dale, and Preston.

Thursday’s quarterfinals quickly established the contenders. Silo defeated Latta 13–0. Oktaha defeated Byng 13–3. Tushka edged Calera 3–1. Dale defeated Preston 6–1.

One day later the field was cut from four to two. Silo shut out Oktaha 10–0. Dale survived Tushka 9–6. That sent two of Oklahoma’s most established small-school programs to the championship game.

The final belonged to Silo. Behind a complete game from senior pitcher Landon Langley, the Rebels defeated Dale 8–3. Silo jumped ahead 5–0 and never surrendered the lead. Bryce Vandenburg drove in three runs and scored another as the Rebels became the first champion of Oklahoma’s new Class 2A fall classification.

The championship was Silo’s seventh fall baseball state title and its first since 2021.

Six games at Yukon. Six eliminations. Silo left Yukon needing only one more win — and finished the job.

2025: Byng takes its turn

A year later the Class 2A tournament returned to Yukon. The 2025 final eight: Colbert, Preston, Byng, Calera, Silo, Latta, Tushka, and Dale.

This tournament produced more chaos. Colbert opened by knocking off Preston 3–1. Byng defeated Calera 5–1. Defending champion Silo survived Latta 1–0. Then Tushka delivered one of the biggest results of the opening round, defeating Dale 3–2.

Friday brought another surprise. Byng rolled past Colbert 9–0 to claim one championship berth. On the other side, Tushka took down defending champion Silo 6–5. Neither team from the previous year’s championship game returned to the final. Tushka had eliminated Dale and Silo on consecutive days.

Byng ended the run Saturday. The Pirates defeated Tushka 13–1 in five innings to capture the 2025 Class 2A championship — the seventh fall baseball state title in Byng program history.

Once again, every game that decided the state championship matchup was played at Yukon.

2026: The next eight are taking shape

The 2026 state tournament field will not become official until postseason play is completed. There is still plenty left to decide.

The Class 2A race is already developing, and many of the programs that defined the first two years of the classification remain in the championship picture. Silo, Dale, Tushka, Preston, Oktaha, Latta, Byng, and several other established fall programs have continued to battle through schedules filled with ranked opponents.

There are familiar names everywhere. There is also still baseball to play. September rankings do not guarantee a trip to Yukon in October. Regional tournaments will decide who earns that trip.

Two days. Eight teams. Two survivors.

The format is unforgiving. Eight regional qualifiers arrive Thursday. Four survive. By Friday afternoon, only two remain. There is no loser’s bracket at state and no second opportunity.

One bad inning. One defensive mistake. One dominant pitching performance. One big swing. Any of them can change a season. Recent history has already proven it.

• In 2024, Silo dominated its two games at Yukon by a combined 23–0 before winning the state championship.
• In 2025, Tushka eliminated Dale and defending champion Silo in consecutive games decided by a combined two runs.
• Byng allowed one run in its two games at Yukon before exploding in the championship game.

That is state tournament baseball. For the third straight October, it is coming to Yukon.
